Building better runners by making better athletes.

Youth sports in America continues to grow at a rapid rate.  Today, not only is there far greater emphasis on sports specialization, but also additional training outside of the season.  Unfortunately, as the participation and training increases, so does the injury rate amongst high school athletes. While the cause(s) for injury are up for debate, one principle remains true- those who move better perform better.

Of course, this is a program intended for runners, but the content of the course will include so much more than simply running. In preparation for the upcoming Spring sports, athletes will learn the basics of strength, mobility and even coordination training. Building on previous courses, participants will individually increase weights, repetitions and speeds to challenge them as individual athletes. As usual, the purpose of training together in the gym is to build better athletes, improve running economy and make runners more durable for the long miles required during the Spring athletics season. In addition to working together on Saturday mornings, participating athletes are encouraged to perform their strength programs together in pairs or teams during each week.

Leading the Winter workouts is physical therapist and running enthusiast Justin Geissinger.  Each week Justin will deliver a fun, challenging and educational course targeting movement basics to promote strength and efficiency in running. Following each week’s lesson, athletes will pair up and spread throughout the gym to perform their strength programs.
